Education & Experience
Braden earned his undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University (2012), and his J.D. and LL.M. in Tax from the University of Washington (2016). During law school Braden worked at the Federal Taxpayer Clinic at UW, and interned at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Division of Enforcement, and the IRS, Office of Chief Counsel. Since law school, he has worked for both law firms and accounting firms in areas of tax, business formation and planning, estate planning and probate, and real estate and other business transactions.
For the last 4 years, Braden worked for the Washington Department of Revenue analyzing and drafting tax legislation regarding nonprofits, property tax, sales and use tax, business and occupation tax, real estate excise tax, taxable government grants, and estate tax. Braden also managed the drafting of briefing documents, proposals, and legislation in support of the Tax Structure Work Group, which was a bipartisan legislative work group tasked with looking into wholesale changes to the Washington tax structure to make the tax structure fairer and more equitable. As a part of this project Braden led the team that drafted the bill to replace the business and occupation tax with a margin tax similar to those in Texas and Oregon.
Braden has given more than a dozen presentations on complex tax issues to the Tax Structure Work Group, legislators, legislative staff, local tax staff, and at the Washington State Tax Conference in Pulman.
Braden is passionate about helping clients understand and successfully navigate challenging federal, state, and local tax issues. He also emphasizes work on matters relating to business, estate planning, real estate, and transactions.
